Christopher Dodds is a Canadian wildlife photographer, educator, and workshop leader with more than 40 years of experience behind the lens. Known for his field-based approach and deep understanding of the fundamentals of photography and bird behaviour, Chris creates powerful, natural images built on timing, light, and patience.
Based in Quebec, Canada, he leads small-group photography workshops and photo tours across North America—and beyond. His experiences include winter Snowy Owl expeditions, spring migration at Point Pelee, Osprey photography in Florida, Atlantic Puffins along Quebec’s North Shore, and coastal brown bears in Alaska’s Katmai region.
Chris is a presenter and collaborator with Sony Canada, where he shares his knowledge through live events, photo walks, and educational presentations. His workshops often incorporate the latest Sony equipment, giving participants the opportunity to work with professional gear in real-world conditions.
Chris has a deep command of the fundamentals—light, exposure, timing, and composition—and the technical experience to make fast, confident decisions in the field. Just as important, he knows how to explain it. Whether someone is brand new to photography or already working at a high level, he adapts quickly, cutting through the noise and focusing on what matters most in the moment. The result is simple: better understanding and better images.
A strong advocate for ethical wildlife photography, Chris operates with a strict no baiting, no luring, and no disturbance philosophy. His focus is on helping photographers understand behaviour, anticipate moments, and come away with images that reflect authentic encounters in the wild.
Through his blog, Nature Photography Blog, and decades of time in the field, Chris shares not just techniques, but the thought process behind consistently getting results—often in challenging and unpredictable conditions.
If you’re looking to improve your wildlife photography while experiencing some of the best locations and subjects North America has to offer, Chris’s workshops are designed to put you in the right place, at the right time—with the guidance to make the most of it.
“I found Chris through the strength of the images on his website. Having now taken two of his workshops, I’ve seen a significant improvement in my photography—both in capture and post-processing.
After attending many wildlife photography workshops, Chris stands out for his top-notch instruction and ability to consistently put participants in excellent photographic situations.
If you’re serious about improving your photography, Chris can help you in many ways. He clearly explains not just what he’s doing, but why—emphasizing both vision and execution, in the field and in post.
It was a real pleasure to shoot with and learn from him. I give a hearty recommendation to anyone considering a workshop with Chris—one I fully intend to follow myself.”
